Above Ohrid: A Walk Around Samuel’s Fortress
I met up with my dear friend at the center of Ohrid. Our goal is to go to the castle on the hill, which is visible from all around.
My friend came to visit me where I live in the city center, and we had some coffee together. After chatting for a while with two English women we met there, we made our way to the central square and started walking up the hill toward the castle through the narrow streets.

Since my friend had already visited the castle before me, I followed the route he had taken.

As we walk through these dark streets that look as if they’re straight out of the Middle Ages, we come across the Church of Saint Sophia.

My friend, who had visited this place before, pointed to a wall below on the left side of the church to show me an inscription he wanted me to see.
When we arrived at the entrance to the church building, there was a sign stating that it was closed to the public today.

As we noticed right away, a group of women dressed in special outfits had come to the church today for a rehearsal; they were going to be rehearsing here today. They look very stylish in their outfits and with their sense of style.
As soon as they arrived, they went straight inside the church. Unfortunately, since it was closed to visitors, we weren’t able to follow them. We then continued on our way to Samuels Fortress, which was our main destination.

This is the view I saw when I turned around for a moment as I continued walking toward the castle. The lakeside part of Ohrid’s city center and Lake Ohrid

We saw the “Church of Saint Panteleimon” before we reached the castle.
